Lafayette and surrounding areas have felt enormous tragedy over the weekend, we were all blindsided by this terrible natural disaster and now in it’s wake we’ve seen a phenomenal response of fellow citizens wanting to help. We’ve put together a list of locations & websites for anyone interested in donating to the Acadiana Flood Relief and helping our community rise again!
Donate Goods & Supplies:
- A shelter at the Unity Events Center in Scott is accepting donations and flood victims who need help. Spokeswoman Loretta Perrot said the facility is very large and donations of clothing, personal items, blankets, food, etc., are welcome. The facility is located at 211 J.B. Road in Scott. For more information, call the Center at 981-8954.
- The Daily Advertiser, 1100 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, will be accepting donations from 8-5 p.m. all week. If you need supplies, they encourage you to visit their office and take whatever you need.
At the moment, here’s what they need most:
-Boxes (any size, to pack materials for delivery)
*Please do not bring clothing, we appreciate all donations but have more articles of clothing that we can handle at this time!
- United Way of Acadiana is accepting donated goods at its warehouse at 215 E. Pinhook Rd. from 8- 6p.m. daily until further notice.
This location is the staging point for all donated supplies, which will be dispersed to shelters and other places where needed.
Items needed are:
-Baby food & formula
-Non-perishable food items (e.g. canned goods)
-New, unopened packages of underwear (adult & children)
-New, unopened packages of socks (adult & children)
-Feminine hygiene products
-School supplies, due to flooding in local schools.
* They also ask for us not to bring any clothing to this location as they too have had an influx of wardrobe donations!
*NOTE* we always recommend using your judgment and verifying the organization before sending cash donations.
